    About Chrysotile White Asbestos

Chrysotile white asbestos was frequently used in roofs, walls, ceilings and floors of both commercial and domestic buildings. In fact, it can still be found in many homes and businesses today. Chrysotile’s soft and flexible qualities made it an ideal material to use for car brakes, floor tiles, asbestos cement sheets and pipes for roofs, and asbestos insulation boards for the protection of buildings.

Whilst these qualities seemed useful at the time, white asbestos has been banned in the UK since 1999. This was due to its potential to pose serious health risks. Therefore, ACMs should only be handled by trained professionals, safely and appropriately, in accordance with ARCA, ACAD and HSE regulations.

How Dangerous is Chrysotile White Asbestos?

Whilst the asbestos content in chrysotile is not as high as amphibole blue asbestos for example, any ACM has the potential to cause harm. Chrysotile white asbestos in particular, has the ability to spread quickly across the environment, due to its common use in car brakes, clutches and asbestos cement pipes.

If your property is an older building, the remaining ACMs may have been damaged over time, causing unwanted fibres to be released. This is where we come in. It is crucial to have licensed asbestos contractors enlisted to inspect, remediate or remove any ACMs safely to mitigate your risk of asbestos exposure.
