Chrysotile is the only type of asbestos with serpentine fibres, making it the most widely used variety as they were soft, flexible, and curved, meaning they were easy to spin or weave into other materials. Chrysotile is generally considered to be a lower-risk asbestos type than crocidolite and amosite, which have fine, sharp, brittle, and needle-like fibres. But, it’s important to remember that any ACM has the potential to pose serious health risks. 

When disturbed, chrysotile asbestos fibres can diffuse rapidly throughout the environment. Inhalation of said asbestos fibres can lead to lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.
